Have you ever thought about working for DoorDash or Grubhub? Maybe you thought about driving for Spark, Uber Eats, even Instacart? Maybe you read some of the comments and seen some of the “how to” videos and maybe you think being a food driver isn’t a good fit for you? Maybe you’re scared about putting those “miles” on your car and you honestly think it’s going to cost “a lot of gas” to deliver food, that it’s clearly not worth it – right? Well I’m here to change your mind and to also tell you that not everyone’s experience is the same, and the good news is just remember all of those miles and you putting gas in your car, really pays for itself in the long run “at tax time” as you DoorDash.

Most people now a days they’re wanting to earn some kind of money on the side but they honestly don’t know how to generate a side income nor do they know that they can. I’ve talked about this before but it’s very obvious that you must provide a service if you’re going to make any type of money – period. I personally use Grubhub, Instacart, Uber Eats, Spark, and DoorDash, and honestly it never dawned on me to ever start Door-Dashing because of my life.. It’s kind of funny how things work in life sometimes, especially when you have a full time job and you really don’t need the extra money.. But we all could use some extra side money – right? That’s the thing, believe it or not but, 80% of people they go to work, go home, shower, cook dinner or order food online, watch a movie, play video games, they might even browse around on social media, and go to bed. They do this every single day and that’s it – faithfully. Some people they even go back to school to further their education so they can basically make “more money”, to be in a career verses that everyday “dead end job”, which is very understandable. But I like to inform you that your way of thinking is very basic and it’s really your “mindset” and how you think you should live your life and what you believe in how it should be or what others may or may not think of you..
Here is what I’m doing and proof of what I’m making being a driver for DoorDash. Also I’m not going to post my other earnings through the other companies, but this is 100% proof that I’m making money with DoorDash (yes I do make a lot of money with the other driver apps I mentioned above). NO, I’m not here to brag or show off, I’m simply sharing this information to get you to rethink ways to make money on the side, yes this is legit and super easy. Here is what I made in my first week simply driving for about 12 hours and I made $237.
I mean I don’t know about you but I’m sold. I get it, this isn’t for everybody, and people are scared, or whatever, but you’re NOT going to make this kind of money “at home” selling homemade T-shirts with your Cricut Maker, or selling smoothies, cupcakes and homemade brownies nor selling homemade coffee cups with your Cricut Mug Press. It’s simply just not going to happen. Let me run the math for you real quick and we can look at just the raw numbers driving for DoorDash.. I made $237 in 2 days, working 6 hours each day, when you divide that by the hours that I drove at 12 hours, I made $19.75 an hour (normally I’m going to be driving for 15 to 20 hours a week). Now $15 an hour is the bare minimum which is reasonable and very promising, but more then likely you’ll be making more then that so we’re just going to look at the “what if” at $15 an hour.
Really this job is about how many hours you’re willing to put in “driving” during the week. So for me on my days off, I will DoorDash about 6 to 8 hours. NO, this isn’t all day driving, I will split my hours up, so usually it’s 3 or 4 hours in the morning 7AM – 11AM or 8AM – 12PM, then I’ll take a break until 5PM or 6PM, then I’ll start Door-Dashing again another 3 to 4 hours in the evening 5PM – 9PM, or 6PM – 10PM. Now you can just focus on Door-Dashing 3 or 4 hours for the entire day, but for you to generate money you’re going have to DoorDash about 4 or 5 days a week (ideal you want to drive about 6 or 8 hours a day, the more hours that you put in “in one day”, is less days you have to drive). Also Uber Eats is generating great money with their unbeatable promotions that you can’t pass up!
Lets say you’re making 15 bucks an hour, and you put in 15 hours for the entire week, you’ll make $225 (average at $15 an hour). After taxes, and lets say you do this weekly, you’ll generate an extra $675 a month. Worse case scenario, lets say you made 12 bucks an hour Door-Dashing and/or with Uber Eats and you worked the same 15 hours, after taxes you’ll generate an extra $540 a month. Yeah I don’t know about you but this is pretty easy money to make, you basically go pick the food up and then you go drop it off, that’s it, and why would you pass this opportunity up for!?? I’m not going to tell you how to live your life or how to spend your money or your time, not even tell you how to make your money, but I challenge you to open up your mind and rethink about the “opportunities”.
Fun fact real quick, my father was an electrician, he worked for the union, made great money, but one important thing that he taught me when I was young and that was to never “focus on just one thing in life”.. Even though my father made 60k-70k a year, he also did a lot of side jobs like working on cars and bikes, collecting cans, collecting copper wire, installing alarm systems, even providing his services to companies and individuals that needed his skill set. I asked him one day why don’t you drive a nice car, and he told me, “because that’s a car payment that could pay for something else”.. Can I afford a $250, $300, even a $400 car payment, of course I can, but that’s money I don’t have to come up with just to be driving a “nice car”, it’s just a vehicle at the end of the day. Can I afford a $1200, $1500, $2000 a month mortgage, of course I could, but me just paying $850 for rent right now, that’s saving me $350, $650, $1,150 a month, and that’s money I can be spending elsewhere…
Lets say you make 25 bucks an hour right now at your job, hell, 15 bucks an hour and that’s really all you needed to make – to “make it”. But have you honestly never thought and/or considered about making money on the side or doing a “side hustle” before? Maybe starting up a small side business, a website, maybe – doing something that you’re passionate about? Did you know that you can? Did you know that it’s not even expensive to get started? What’s stopping you? It’s really mind-blowing how people they “never” will do anything else but go to work and go home, and that’s it – nothing else.. Why? Do you know how much “time” you’re actually wasting every day of your life? For starters do you like sleeping in or maybe the first thing you do when you wake up is TikTok and Facebook? How about the time you’re wasting on your so called “day off” because you honestly think and believe that means you’re entitled to “absolutely do nothing”?? Well I want you to think about this real quick, I like to share this story with you that really changed my mindset which then changed my entire life forever. I’m just very thankful for the inspiration and the knowledge that has made me a better person overall…
I use to be that person who loves to “sleep in” all the time, (the first thing I would do is grab my phone and be on TikTok for an hour – easy), I always love my naps. I was that person who would stay up late and wake up late. Normally I would wake up around 10AM – 1PM on my days off and I was always just sitting around doing nothing in general. I did this for years and years, and I would always complain about it – that it was already 6PM and why, like where did my day go? After working 8 hours I would go straight home and do the same “two things” every day of my life, and that was “game” or “TikTok” for hours till bed-time. Some weeks we would have family game night, go to the park, sometimes get out of the house and “travel” but that was stuff I didn’t really want to do – personally. I would focus all my time and energy on video gaming and being on social media. I was super lazy like I wasn’t motivated to do anything, and I would make literally any excuse to just “not” do anything just so I could do what “I wanted to do”, and after living that toxic lifestyle for so many years I was tried of just being tried all the time.. I knew I needed to change my life and my mindset, so I did just that!
I just started to change my lifestyle around. I started setting goals, and becoming a more organized person, and I started to wake up early everyday. I spend less time on social media, spending less time video gaming and less time being on my cell phone, I was basically wasting time doing stuff that was irrelevant and doing crap that clearly wasn’t really benefiting me at all. So if you’re that type of person who sleeps in and is constantly taking naps, can I ask why is that? Why are you wasting time on social media, video games, and/or playing games on your cell phone for – and you’re probably not even getting paid to do that? You know you could be doing something else with your time – right? If you would really think about these things honestly for a minute your “mindset” is what is “stopping” you..
Now I wake up around 5AM to 6AM everyday – faithfully. I’m not going to sit around and do nothing, I’m going to find something to do and be productive. Lets say you get up at 10AM or 11AM, I already have a 4 to 6 hour lead headstart on you.. And it gets worse the longer you lay in bed. So if you get up at noon, I have a 6 to 7 hour lead on you, I don’t know about you but those “hours” you can never get back, I just wanted to bring this up. Do you know what you could achieve in those “lost hours”? And people every single day live this never ending life cycle to wake up to literally do nothing and when they get off of work they go home to absolutely do nothing.. WHY? All that I’m trying to share with you is my secret to success and that is to start focusing on the things that really matter most in your life and too start investing your time into the things that are going to “benefit” you in the long run.. It’s about wanting to change your life someday, it’s not about wanting to make more money one day.. EVERYTHING starts with DAY ONE.
Tips And Tricks To Know About When Becoming
A Door Dasher

First things first! TAXES! Yes you have to pay taxes, it’s simple, you will be GETTING PAID so you have to pay taxes, there’s no way around this. They claim you can earn up to $600 free, so anything after that you have to pay taxes! What I recommend you doing is, setting up a separate savings or checking account strictly for your taxes Door-Dashing, Uber Eats, Spark, Instacart, etc.. You want to put up 25% or 30% from what you make Door-Dashing “weekly”. When you file your taxes at the end of the year you may have some “left over money”. The bare minimum is 18%. 18% is safe and you may or may not end up owing money at the end of the year at tax time. So if you’re wanting to keep more of your earnings from DoorDashing, taking out 18% is okay. But to be safe take out 30% before you pay yourself. Let me make something very clear, you must pay taxes because you will be providing a service which they do consider that a “job”. This isn’t like eBay where you can buy and sell items, you don’t need to report those earnings. That’s like buying and selling stuff on Facebook Marketplace or having a yard-sale, you don’t have to report that..
(You want to set up weekly direct deposits, never sign up for the instant “Fast Pay”) the reason why is because if you’re not keeping track of every bit of the money that you’re transferring over, it’s going to hurt you at the end of the year.. So for example, lets say you made $200 for the week, you would want to put $50 or $60 up into that DoorDash “tax account”, and the rest you pocket! Every single week, what you earn and/or make, you want to make sure you’re transferring 25% or 30% of that into that DoorDash “tax account”. To properly calculate just take what you made for that week and you just add 25% or 30% then minus what you made.. $200 + 25% = $250. You owe $50 in taxes.. If you made $400 + 30% = $520. $520 minus $400 = $120. You owe $120 in taxes. If you ran the same numbers at 25% you would owe $100.
Make sure that you’re keeping track of all your “miles” when you’re out Door-Dashing and every single time you put gas in your vehicle you want to make sure you’re “keeping your gas receipts”. Yeah so before you even get started you want to make sure you have your vehicles current mileage.. IRS wants to see how many miles you actually DoorDash verses your everyday driving, also gas for your car, how much of it was for “personal use” and how much was it for “business use”. So an easy way to keep track is before you tap that “dash now” button, write down the vehicles current mileage (you want to make a drivers log every single time you start to DoorDash) basically as an example write down the day, day of the week like this Monday May 3rd 2021, write current vehicle mileage, then when you stop Door-Dashing, write down how many miles you drove while Door-Dashing, and how many miles is currently on your car now (this will tell you how many miles you drove while Door-Dashing – very basic).. You can also download Everlance for $8.99 a month this is the best way to keep track of all your miles for you and save it – showing how many miles you drove, also it can easily be downloaded and/or sent right from the app when “Tax-Filing”. Every time you’re about to DoorDash, and/or use any said DRIVER APP – you want to always repeat this process..
Now that the basics are out of the way you want to invest in a few things that is going to make you a better DoorDasher, and make you look more professional, and possibly make you more money – believe it or not!! Start with this very nice GPS cell phone mount for your vehicle (if you have a built in navigation system even better) I recommend the Vicseed GPS Mount great for the window and/or dashboard. You’re going to want to invest in a better “DoorDash food bag”. I recommend you look into these VENO 3pk Heavy Duty Bags. Why three? Well you have extra bags for the future or if you’re Door-Dashing with a friend or with family, also these bags are bigger and will hold more food, like KFC, Red Lobster, Applebee’s, places like these – these bags will hold a big order perfectly, and keep the food nice a hot longer.. Also you can invest in these VENO x2 pack XL Bags.. Don’t forget your Pizza Bag!
I recommend you “always keep the food in your carrying bag – ALWAYS“ and when you pull up you want to take your “carrying bag” with you and this will increase your rating and customers love to see that you kept their food nice and warm, and trust me you’re more then likely going to make a CASH TIP and/or a better “TIP”, so “NEVER” take the food out of your carrying bag in your car and then walk it up to them or leave it at the door. Take your carrying bag with you – open it up and leave the food at the door, customers love to see this and love to see YOU take their food from your carrying bag… Trust me – they’re watching!! I can’t even begin tell you how many times I have personally ordered food and I’ve seen them walk right up while my food was left out – wasn’t even in their carrying bag, then my food is cold, who is to blame for that? Yes the drivers fault – so dont make that mistake! Also when you’re Door-Dashing sometimes you have to leave your area or district to make that extra perk “promo” money! This is key and very important to make the most money with DoorDash, Uber-Eats, etc… Depending where at or location, times, days, when you’re a dasher you can earn extra money during certain areas and certain hours, and trust me it adds up quickly! I tell people that I will normally DoorDash for about 5 or 6 hours on my day off. People freak out and say WOW how can you just drive for 5 or 6 hours straight!? haha I don’t. I’ll drive around for about 2 – 4 hours in the morning, and then drive for about 3 – 4 hours in the evening.. Easily making 100 bucks a day.
Another tip is when an order comes through, you NEVER want to DECLINE any orders. Just let the time run out, yes this will hurt your acceptance rate, but what matters most is your “completion rate”, and being on time. Because lets say you accept an order and then you notice it’s going to take you 15 minutes to pick up the food and deliver it to the customer and/or you pull up to the drive thru at night and there’s 5 or 6 cars in front you and you’re like I’m not doing this for 6 bucks and you go ahead and “cancel” or “unassigned” the order to someone else, this will hurt your completion rating badly and if you continue to do this you will be removed from DoorDash and no longer be able to drive for them in the future..
Last tip! So a good way to know if an order is worth the drive or not is when the order pops up on the bottom, it will show “total miles” so it might read 3.5 miles or 4.9 miles or 7.4 miles etc… I personally won’t do anything above 9 miles, because time is money when you’re a dasher. Never accept EVERY SINGLE ORDER, because if you’re driving 12 minutes or 15 minutes one way and 12 minutes to 15 minutes back – just for one $9 order, then you drive another 15 minutes to and from for one $6 order, you just basically made $15 that first hour – ouch..
(yes ideally you want to aim to make that per hour, but as example this could happen, and this isn’t good, because you ended up driving more miles for less orders, you want to try and drive less miles for more orders which = more $$)
(this is average or minimum you want to make, but making $20 plus an hour is very possible) Not bad but you wasted too much time driving, so I recommend for longer drives, it needs to pay nice each and ever time..
People say the rule of thumb is $2 per mile, I disagree. Because once you start Door-Dashing, you will learn quickly how long every mile is and you basically earn money faster, for shorter distances – of course. That’s not always true, I actually had a $15 order that was 9.5 miles and I normally do $1 per mile, this wasn’t ideal but this was clearly still worth the drive. So lets say an order comes up and its 7.5 miles away, and you’ll make 6 bucks, this is clearly not worth the drive to and from (even if you were to make 8 bucks), just let the timer run out and move on to the next order… Also you might get lucky and accept an order and on your way traveling to pick up the food, another order will pop up and you just got “two orders now”, this is known as a high value order, which basically means cha-ching! Sometimes customers will leave additional CASH TIPS which is always nice. Always be near the hot spots, always keep customers food in your “carrying bag”, because would you want to receive cold food? NEVER run multiple apps at one time, keep an eye on your overall miles and you should be making money in no time!
